Frequently asked questions
Measuring Your Splashback
Please use a standard tape measure and provide all dimensions in millimetres (mm). If your splashback will be installed within an alcove or between walls, allow a 2mm clearance on each side for fitting. Remember: measure twice, fit once.
Cut-outs and Sockets
If your splashback requires socket or other cut-outs, please provide full details when placing your order. All socket measurements should be taken to the centre point of each cut-out.
-
Single sockets are cut at 75mm x 75mm, allowing the socket faceplate to fully cover the cut-out for a neat finish.
-
Double sockets are cut at 135mm x 75mm, again ensuring the faceplate sits cleanly over the opening.
This method ensures that the cut-outs remain hidden behind the socket covers, giving a professional and seamless appearance.
To ensure precise placement, please watch and follow our measuring guide, which explains how to measure accurately from the bottom and sides of the splashback area. Always measure to the centre of the required cut-out and enter these X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) measurements when ordering.
Handling Your Splashback
Although your splashback is made from toughened glass, it should still be handled with care. Never place it directly onto hard surfaces such as floor tiles, granite worktops, or ceramic tiles, as the edges are particularly vulnerable and can shatter if they come into contact with these surfaces—especially before the splashback is installed.
Always stand the splashback upright on a soft surface such as wood or carpet, and aim to fit it as soon as possible. When handling the glass, wear protective gloves and safety glasses. Until installation, store the glass safely in a secure location, well out of reach of children.
Fitting Your Splashback
Before fitting, carefully check that your splashback is the correct size. Apply either the Mirrofix adhesive supplied by us or a high-quality silicone adhesive to the back of the splashback, which is foil-backed for protection. The adhesive should be applied directly onto this foil surface using a silicone gun, in vertical lines across the back of the glass. Be sure to leave a small gap between the adhesive and the edges of the splashback to prevent excess adhesive from squeezing out when pressed against the wall.
Ensure the wall surface is clean, free of dust or loose materials, and as flat as possible. Position the bottom of the splashback onto the wall, resting on 2mm spacers to maintain a gap between the splashback and the worktop, cooker, or tiles. Tilt the top edge slightly outward during this process, so only the bottom edge makes contact with the wall initially. Once correctly positioned, gently press the top of the splashback back towards the wall and apply light, even pressure across the surface.
Leave the spacers in place for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to fully set. After this time, remove the spacers and fill the 2mm gap at the bottom with silicone for a neat, sealed finish.
What Type of Glass Do You Use?
Your splashback is manufactured from 6mm low iron toughened Pilkington glass, fully compliant with BS 6206-EN-12600 safety standards. All our splashbacks are heat-resistant and toughened, making them suitable for use behind hobs and gas cookers. Even our mirrored splashbacks are toughened for safety, unlike many competitors who use standard mirrors that are not suitable for these areas.
We can match virtually any colour, including the full RAL range, as well as shades from Dulux, Crown, Laura Ashley, and Farrow & Ball. You can simply select from our RAL colours or enter the brand and name of your chosen paint in the box provided.
For all our splashbacks, we exclusively use toughened low iron glass, unlike some suppliers who opt for standard float glass. Regular float glass can distort colour and clarity due to its natural iron content, which imparts a slight green tint. In contrast, low iron glass offers a clearer finish, ensuring true colour representation and sharper imagery.
Every splashback comes with polished edges for a smooth, safe finish, created by precision-machining the glass edges. Your splashback will be securely packaged for delivery; please unpack it carefully on a flat surface. Additionally, your splashback will be foil-backed to protect the rear surface—this protective foil should remain in place and not be removed.
